The internet is amazing. There is so much information available online. Right now, I am referring to the huge amount of canyoneering routes and beta that is floating around somewhere in the internet tubes. you just have to know where to look.
We decided on Moonshine Wash for a few reasons. It is not extremely long, which makes it a great option for the cats. It also looked to be extremely photogenic. Most of all, it was in a zone that I had never even looked at on a map. We wanted to go just to help us fill in some of the gaps in our personal Utah travels.
Moonshine Wash lies 25 or so miles south of Green River, UT. We camped at the trailhead on Friday night and hiked Moonshine Wash Saturday. There were some great sections of narrows and a few steeper downclimbs. For the harder downclimbs, one of us would go ahead and then we could help pass the kitties down the sections that might have been too steep for them to descend safely.
We camped on a great spot overlooking a huge 180° bend in the Green River. The views were amazing. We did some pleasure driving to try and find some new areas. We tried some new strategies involving a boogie board and a lot of trust. This will be our ticket to completing some wet canyons in the future.
